As a movie series, the Lord of the Rings is more consistent. All the characters are played by the same actors, and There isn't the issue of actors that are too old for the part. (I do understand that HP is more books and there were delays, but LoR is still the better series of movies.)

I loved both of them but the Harry Potter movies were more engaging for me.

The Lord of the Rings series is much higher quality than the Harry Potter series. A few of the Potter movies seemed totally pointless, like part 1 of the Deathly Hallows. All they do is wander around a forest for 2 1/2 hours.

omg, lord of the rings is far far far FAAAAAAAAAARRR superior. JRR TOLKIEN COMON! It's written about 100 times better.
