Volkswagen silences work email after work hours. Should other companies follow suit?
Background:
Volkswagen has decided to stop sending work emails to employees' Blackberries once their shifts end in order to better support the separation of work and personal time. Apparently employees who have company issued phones work over 50 hours a week because it's harder to separate work life from home life.
Should other companies follow in Volkswagen's footsteps and create a clearer boundary between work and home in order to foster a happier and less stressful overall work environment, or is there an expectation for employees to get their work done and to be available regardless of whether they're actually in the office?
