Lana del Rey: talented or total mess?

Lana del Rey is the latest young female music artist to attract attention, but the jury's out as to whether it's positive or negative. Her real name is Elizabeth Grant and she's the daughter of a millionaire domain investor whose management chose the stage name "Lana del Ray" for her. She's released a few singles, one of which, " Video Games," has nearly 22 million views on YouTube.
Some people swear by her songs and her persona, which evoke a Nancy Sinatra/Valley of the Dolls-type feel. However, others criticize her for being an Urban Outfitters/Instagram-esque indie hipster manufactured by her rich family. Not helping her cause is her recent atrocious Saturday Night Live performance, in which she shakily warbled a couple songs. Her excuse was that live performance wasn't really her thing, and that she's "more of a songwriter and studio musician," which makes one wonder why she agreed to perform live on SNL in the first place.
