Do you support SOPA or are you against it?

Today a number of sites are going dark to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act, a bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that would result in blocking access to sites accused of copyright infringement. The bill is in danger of effectively crippling the Internet as we know it and could shut down pretty much any website that's accused of stealing content, whether it's a streaming video, a song, or a single image.

We at This or That are strongly opposed to SOPA but want to know what you think. Do you support the Stop Online Piracy Act or do you feel it would do more harm than good?

Debate It! 2

Where's the apathy choice? I am seriously so sick of all of this BS that I have no side of the fence to stand on. On one hand, some of the bill is a bit extreme and does deserve to be tweaked to prevent misinterpretation or abuse. On the other hand, I refuse to act like a chicken with my head cut off screaming "the internet is going to be destroyed if this bill passes for the love of all that is holy think of the children!"

Essentially, both sides have pissed me off equally and I am left standing back shaking my head in disbelief that in 2012 there is still no such thing as "a middle ground." It's either one extreme or the other. It's sad.

I think people need to realize the worst case scenario this bill can bring about. Considering some of our elected officials who are pushing this agenda have admitted they don't even understand how the Internet works, it's pretty terrifying to think that they can enact a piece of legislation they really don't know anything about or can fully realize the implications. It's very shortsighted and they don't understand the ramifications. This or That could easily be shut down if a user uploads a photo that happens to be copyrighted. So many UGC sites would be in danger. I get that they're trying to crack down on piracy but this is not the way to go about doing it.
