If it weren't for the Internet, we wouldn't get to see gems like this one of a woman who was walking and texting and subsequently fell into a mall fountain because she wasn't looking where she was going. The video has amassed over 2 1/2 million views since it was uploaded a week ago because there's nothing people love more than peeking in on the stupidity of complete strangers.
Here's the security footage showing the shopper Mr. Magooing herself into the fountain:
Normally, you'd think that if you did something that embarrassing, you'd laugh it off and have a funny story to share with your friends and family for years to come. Not in litigation-happy America! Apparently the woman plans to sue the mall for not "helping her," despite the fact that she popped out of that fountain so fast, nobody except possibly Usain Bolt could have rushed to her side in time.
From the article:
"I fell in the fountain because I'm an idiot...better sue! Who puts a death trap like that in a public place?!" What dumbfounds me more is that nobody would have known who she was if she hadn't stepped forward to out herself by announcing her intent to sue. She turned in short-term embarrassment for worldwide attention and ridicule, all for a shameless payday.
But wait, there's more! The "victim" herself is in court for five felony charges of theft after she stole a coworker's credit cards and made over $5,000 worth of purchases with them. She'll face sentencing in April, where she'll likely face six months of house arrest plus electronic monitoring. Here's hoping she doesn't short out that ankle bracelet with a little dip in another fountain.
Admittedly, it wasn't very professional of the mall's security employees to post that video for the public to see, but maybe they were trying to create a public service announcement about the dangers (and embarrassment) of texting while walking. Still, it seems like Cathy Cruz Marrero, Ms. Text Talker herself, is primarily to blame. Do you think her lawsuit is absurd or does it holds water? (instant rim shot)

From the article:
She claims she could have gotten seriously hurt and that the security guards should have helped instead of laugh.
"I'm just like dumbfounded. And all I kept saying was, 'I fell. I fell. I fell in the fountain. I fell in the fountain.'"

Is the lady who fell into a fountain while texting's lawsuit against the mall reasonable?
