Screw the Environment, Those Loud-Ass Sun Chips Bags Gotsta Go!

Not too long ago Sun Chips, those tasty multigrain crisps manufactured by Frito-Lay, switched their packaging to a biodegradable bag that was 100% compostable. Environmentalists praised the company for creating an eco-friendly, plant-derived form of packaging. There was only one problem with the bag: it was noisy as hell. Apparently consumers favor quiet time more than saving the planet, as Sun Chips sales dropped 11% in the 18 months since Frito-Lay unveiled the new packaging. The result? Bye-bye, biodegradable bags.

Frito-Lay plans to return to the non-recyclable packaging but promises to come up with a quieter version of the eco-friendly bag. Although their first attempt was noble, they realized that it wasn't exactly convenient for consumers to enjoy their product unless they came bundled with a pair of Bose QC-15s.

I guess you can't have your environmentally-friendly chip and eat it too...not without violating a noise-ordinance, anyway.

Did the eco-friendliness of the Sun Chips bag justify how loud it was?

Debate It! 3

I bought them with the new eco-friendly bag a few times, but I NEVER felt it was so unbearable I couldn't buy them again. People are ridiculous. Maybe its the couch potatoes munching on Sun Chips during their TV shows that it bothers.

Unless the chip bag is hurting your ears I say stay. The earth is a whee bit more important. If it's that big of a deal to someone, perhaps they could pick up a banana instead.
