A director and a beloved actor, both with storied careers, died over the weekend. Irvin Kershner and Leslie Nielsen both passed away at the ripe old ages of 87 and 84, with Kershner succumbing to a "long illness" and Nielsen dying from pneumonia. One's famous for directing Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back while the other made millions of people laugh with roles in Airplane! and The Naked Gun series.

Leslie Nielsen originally started his career as a serious actor but is probably better known to most audiences by his deadpan comedic talents in various comedies from the past three decades. Irvin Kershner produced and wrote as well as acted and directed in over 30 titles over the course of his career. His most recognizable directing work resulted in what's widely regarded as the best Star Wars film of the six movie franchise. Although both men led long, fulfilling lives, it's still sad to see them go.
