Let He Who is Without Sin Throw the First WafflePosted on by Evan Morris (ev.morris28)

I don't know how I missed this one, because I'm usually all over these stories about crazy
idiots sports fans, but the story of the waffle-throwing hockey fan slipped right under my radar. Apparently, on December 20th a frustrated Toronto Maple Leafs fan named Joe Robb decided to show his team what he thought about their performance this season by throwing waffles at them. I'm going to repeat that last part: He decided throw waffles at them! And he was not the first person to do it! In America we throw beer and batteries...Canadians throw breakfast food. Ah, the cultural differences. The waffle incident got him promptly charged with mischief to property (is that a real crime?) and banned from all venues owned by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, including the home of The Maple Leafs, Air Canada Centre.
Good news: ESPN is reporting that the charges have been dropped in return for community service.
Bad news: Mr. Robb still faces a lifetime ban from the home of his beloved team.
Now, if you're anything like me, you're probably sitting there thinking, "I love waffles! Why would anyone associate something negative to the glorious waffle?" I know, right! Fortunately for us, Joe provided a brief explanation to the Toronto Star as to why he decided to Leggo his Eggos all over the Maple Leafs:
"We pay the same money. Why can't we throw waffles because we think they're playing bad? People throw hats when they think they're playing good. Why can't we do something to show disapproval for what's happened over the last 44 years -- especially in my lifetime, 25 years of robbing us and lies?"
He sounds pretty stable to me! When it comes to my team (The University of Kentucky Wildcats, in case you were wondering), I am as crazy as it gets. But some things are too far out there (e.g., throwing waffles) even for me. What do you think?
Should Joe Robb be banned for life from Maple Leaf games?
