Admit it, each one of you has had your thoughts drift towards a hypothetical zombie outbreak. Plenty of movies have depicted the horror and mayhem of a zombie apocalypse, thus providing you with essential survival do's and don'ts (assuming you've done your homework and watched the films, of course). After watching more than my fair share of zombie movies, I've assembled an all-star list of people I'd want with me to survive a zombie outbreak. Below are my top 11 picks.
Selena from 28 Days Later

Lean, fast, and smart, Selena is a must-have ally when it comes to escaping from an infected horde (although the afflicted in 28 Days Later aren't thought to be traditional "zombies" in the sense that they don't want to eat your brains, they just want to rip you apart). She's also ruthless and can make tough decisions in order to survive, like when she chopped up her friend upon finding out he might be infected. Plus, any threat you'd come across would recoil upon seeing her marvelous abs.
Jim from 28 Days Later

Although he was a bit of a liability at first, Jim more than proved his worth at the end of the movie when he escaped from certain death at the hands of rapey military men and easily dispatched them one by one. Not only is he prepared to take out friends who have been infected (R.I.P., Brendan Gleeson), he's not above gouging your eyes out with his freakin' thumbs if you get in his way.
Barbara from Night of the Living Dead (remake)

The
original Barbara in the 1968 version of Night of the Living dead was utterly useless, so it's nice to see the character get Ripley'd up for the 1990 remake. Although her survivor skills are questionable at the beginning of the movie, she emerges at the end as the house's only survivor, hardened by a few nights' battle against both the undead and douchey dads who hide in attics.
Father McGruder from Dead Alive

This
is one priest who knows how to kick ass for the Lord. Although a bit
reckless with his flurry of an attack against the undead, Father
McGruder still managed to inflict some serious damage before getting
turned into a zombie. He's an example of when being "crazy religious"
can actually be beneficial.
El Wray from Planet Terror

This
pint-sized tow truck driver proved that you don't always need guns to
take down a zombie. His knife skills and athleticism made zombie killing
look almost easy. Sacrificing himself to protect his girlfriend is a
bit questionable considering he's easily more valuable than a one-legged
go-go dancer with a prosthetic gun leg. Oh well, at least he
impregnated her before kicking the bucket, ensuring that his superior
genes will carry on and help repopulate the planet.
Alice from Resident Evil

Admittedly, Alice got a little too indestructible as the franchise progressed, but she was still pretty bad-ass in the first Resident Evil when her only superpower was the ability to do flips off walls and dispatch zombies. Her skillset makes her a valuable ally in the fight to survive.
Doyle from 28 Weeks Later

He's an expert marksmen with military training, so Doyle knows how to take out those nasty sprinting adversaries. You know you can count on him and trust him to keep you alive, as indicated by his tragic sacrifice when he pushed a car full of survivors away from poisonous gas and was burned alive by flamethrower-wielding soldiers who were trying to quarantine the area.
Peter from Dawn of the Dead (original)

A former SWAT member, Peter is smart, cautious, and knows to keep fighting no matter how dismal things look. He carried the burden of taking care of his useless and reckless group of survivors and still managed to live to see another day by the end of the movie.
Tallahassee from Zombieland

Having
a crazy hick by your side sure is handy when you're fighting for
survival against a throng of speedy zombies. Tallahassee is always
well-equipped with a multitude of weapons, is seemingly unafraid when it
comes to taking down the undead, and has a good (if morbid) sense of
humor, which is always welcome to help ease the post-apocalyptic tension
in the air. Plus, he loves Bill Murray movies.
Ana from Dawn of the Dead (remake)

Not only is she a nurse, making her super useful in mending non-infected wounds, Ana also doesn't bat an eye when it comes to re-killing the undead. She won't think twice when pushed to take out an acquaintance who's become zombified (although Ty Burrell's character was a bit of a jack-ass -- we much prefer him as Phil on Modern Family).
Bill from Slither

He fought the horde, conquered the end boss, saved the world, and managed to get the girl -- all in a day's work for this small town sheriff. If that's not bad-ass, I don't know what is. Plus, it's Nathan Fillion. He's awesome.
